The internet of things is really becoming “the thing” these days; it is considered one of the most controversial topics in the entire world. With all the technical research and policy related conversation, everyone is trying to understand what the heck all of this fuss is about!!
What exactly is the internet of things?? What impact it’s going to have on us??
Away from all of the complexities I want to stick to the basics and give you a simple explanation of what this concept is really about!!
1.What is the internet of things?
Internet of things simply refers to a network of internet-connected objects able to collect and exchange data, in other words, internet of things is a new type of internet that goes beyond connecting people to connecting things. So it is named the internet of things.
A vivid example is going to illustrate this confusing matter to you.
When you set the alarm of your smart bracelet in order to wake you up at 7 am in the morning it won’t just wake you up and shuts down. However, a chain of events are going to take place, your personal devices will talk to each other. First of all the smart bracelet will send signals to your coffeemaker which will start making your coffee and other signals to your thermal tab which will start your air condition system and sends you cool morning breeze.
Your garage door also is going to be automatically opened. This is all thanks to the internet of things that ensures controlling your surrounding objects and devices with a click of a button.
Generally, whether we are improving the production of a factory, remotely controlling our house devices or monitoring our personal health it’s the common internet of things platform that brings us diverse information together and provides a common language for the devices and apps to communicate with each other.
2.Internet of thing potential impacts
We might like this sophisticated modern life that the internet of things has created for us but we could not deny its impacts on us.
Our health, for instance, is highly affected by this internet of things phenomena, since we are living in a world where everything has the potential to be connected, human became less integrated into the daily life, and machines are everyone. The increasing number of smart machines building and factories replaced the human force.
With the explosive growth of the internet of things, platform security is called into question.
I mean everything is inter-connected; multiple devices in our homes, offices, and cities are loaded with our personal data. In fact, knowing that your coffeemaker is the reason why your healthcare records, bank accounts, and safety got hacked may be a hard to believe fact but an ugly reality.
Finally, I think that many of us did may still not get the concept of lot or internet of things but it is increasingly emerging in our life and we still doesn’t know whether it is a bless or a life threat!!!
